YRA
Score Reporting Technical Stuff:
1) Yacht Race Scoring System -
"YRS" has been the de-facto standard for handicap
event scoring on long island sound for some time, and the
YRA has asked those who can to submit the scores for their
YRA trophy qualifier events using this system since last
year. The program is available from its author, whose
address is:
This year's YRA Trophy qualification
criteria (having to do with number of days raced, rather
than number of races) requires a slightly different
procedure from last year's. Rather than the "Event
Summary" file which we asked for last year, we need
"Race Detail" files for each race completed. What
follows is the procedure for generating those files:
-
From the main menu of the program,
select #9, "ASCII Files"
-
From the ASCII Files menu, select #2,
"Race Detail"
-
From the Race Detail menu, select #1,
"Race Detail - Text Format"
-
You will be asked which race you want a
file for. Please create a separate file for each race
(and note their names).
-
You will be asked if you want
"class finish order" or "rating
order". Select "class finish order".
-
You will be asked if you want Full or
Partial Headers. Select Full Header.
-
You will be asked if you want Long or
Short Skipper Names. Select Short Names.
-
You will then be asked to confirm that
you are ready to create the file. Make note of the file
name and go ahead.
The files created are in the "YRS"
directory. When you want to e-mail them or copy them to a
disk, that's where to look (under the file names you have
carefully noted).
The files are small, so you can generally
attach an entire regatta's race detail files to a single
e-mail. Please include the filenames and their corresponding
race information (including race dates) in the body of the
e-mail, and put the regatta name in the e-mail title header
(so we can figure out which race we're entering scores for).
If you're sending a disk, please accompany it with a note
describing this same information.
2) Spreadsheet score reports - This is fairly self-explanatory. The files must be readable
by a PC using Microsoft's Excel (most mainstream
spreadsheets have "save as" options which make
this possible). The column headers must match those found on
the accompanying printed YRA race score report sheet. If you
aren't usingc some of the columns, leave them blank, but
please include them anyway. If you have other information
not included on the YRA score report sheet, please delete
that information before sending the file to us. It isn't
necessary to create the same header information within the
spreadsheet, but please include it in the e-mail or
accompanying note when you send the scores to us.
If you have any questions or comments,
please address them to Ed Condon, YRA Handicap Scorer,
either at
scores@yralis.org
or in care of the YRA office. Thanks in advance for your
help in getting these scores to the membership in a timely
fashion.
