Scoring 2010

This year, scoring for YRA of LIS season trophies will continue to use the High Point Percentage of Perfection Scoring System. A yacht will be awarded one point for starting, and one point for each YRA of LIS member yacht she beats. YRA of LIS member yachts are defined as any vessel that has a valid YRA of LIS PHRF certificate on file and is current with her dues. Qualifying for season scores will be predicated upon a yacht's competition on the number of days outlined above (see ''Qualifying''), and once she has qualified, a yacht will receive one throw-out race for each five races she starts.

In a single race, a yacht's percentage of perfection score is calculated by dividing the numerator, consisting of points awarded, by the denominator, consisting of the points earned by the winner of the race.

For a trophy, a yacht's percentage of perfection (as expressed above) in each of her best qualifying races (as determined above) will be averaged to produce a season percentage of perfection. The highest season percentage of perfection wins the trophy.

The running results will be posted on the YRA of LIS website on a regular basis, www.yralis.org.

New ideas for improving both the scoring and communication of current scores to the racers are always under consideration by the Racing Programs Committee, and a competitor's ideas are always welcome. Please e-mail them to scores@yralis.org.

Scoring Systems
and Reporting

The Racing Programs Committee's season scoring system is designed to accept computer files generated by Microsoft Excel. A copy of the results reporting form is available at www.yralis.org in Microsoft's Excel format. Email submission of results to scores@yralis.org is the most preferred method. It is especially important to identify if a race or division is sailing under IRC, PHRF or Non-Spinnaker (JAM) rules.

This year we will also be supporting RaceSail as the scoring program of choice. RaceSail is a Windows based program that has been adopted by the majority of our member clubs throughout the sound. It is fairly intuitive and easy to use, plus it is well supported by its developers and user community. Best of all, RaceSail is available for free at http://www.racesail.com. We are making efforts of providing up to date YRA of LIS member vessel data that can be imported directly to the RaceSail program, eliminating the major data entry
efforts necessary for setting up a regatta.

We would like to hear from our member clubs and sailors on this effort. Please send any feedback to scores@yralis.org.

Non-Spinnaker
Racing Program

In conformance with the principles of qualification established by the Racing Programs Committee for YRA trophies, The Kings Point Trophy (ratings 138 or lower) and the Allegra Knapp Mertz Memorial Trophy (ratings 139 or higher) will require a yacht to sail and complete at least 7 days of racing in order to qualify. Races in which one or more non-spinnaker divisions may be offered (if entries warrant) are indicated by an ''n'' before the race title on the schedule tables on pages 16-17, and those which qualify for the Kings Point and Mertz trophies are also indicated. If you have any questions, please contact the YRA Scorekeeper at scores@yralis.org.
